osures, building accessories and formed parts. Choose the steel grade for strength and forming performance, the zinc coating for the exposure conditions, and the surface finish for the appearance you need.

This product is continuous hot-dip zinc-coated steel supplied as flat sheets, also called GI sheet. Cut-to-size material can simplify purchasing for workshops that use flat blanks rather than coil-fed equipment.

Product Specifications

Parameter Supply Options

Width 600–2000 mm, subject to confirmation
Length 1000–6000 mm; custom cutting by agreement
Grade options DX51D+Z, DX52D+Z, DX53D+Z, SGCC; structural options such as S280GD+Z and S350GD+Z
Standards EN 10346, JIS G 3302 or ASTM A653/A653M, with the appropriate grade agreed in the order
Zinc coating 30–275 g/m² total both sides as an offered commercial range; exact designation and acceptance criteria depend on the standard
Spangle Regular, minimized or zero spangle; large spangle by inquiry
Surface requirements Skin pass, oiling, passivation or anti-fingerprint treatment by agreement
Processing Leveling, cutting and slitting; further fabrication by inquiry
Documents MTC, Certificate of Origin and agreed export documentation

These ranges do not mean every size, grade and coating combination is available. Confirm thickness measurement basis, tolerances, flatness, edge condition and inspection requirements. Grades from different standards are not automatically interchangeable.

What Do Z100, Z180 and Z275 Mean?

For common total-both-sides Z designations, the number refers to zinc coating mass in g/m² across both faces. Z275 does not mean 275 g/m² on each face. Standard designations include defined test and minimum acceptance requirements; a commercial coating target alone is not a complete specification.

In particular, do not copy a Z value between EN, ASTM and JIS orders without checking the applicable designation. Ask the supplier to state the standard, coating requirement and test basis on the quotation.

Lighter Coatings

Commercial targets around 30–100 g/m² use less zinc. Evaluate them only where the product specification and exposure conditions permit, such as selected protected indoor components. Low price alone is not a sufficient reason to reduce the coating.

Intermediate Coatings

Requirements around 120–180 g/m² may be considered for fabrication projects where the agreed protection level falls in this range. Confirm humidity, condensation, cleaning exposure and any subsequent paint system before selection.

Heavier Coatings

Requirements around 200–275 g/m² provide more zinc mass for the same sheet area. They may be appropriate where a project calls for greater atmospheric protection. Coastal exposure, trapped moisture and aggressive environments still require a project-specific assessment; Z275 is not a universal outdoor guarantee.

Illustrative comparison: 275 g/m² contains 2.75 times the coating mass of 100 g/m². This is not a guarantee of 2.75 times the service life or a proportional change in sheet price.

Regular Spangle vs Zero Spangle

Spangle is the visible zinc crystal pattern formed as the coating solidifies. It describes appearance rather than a coating-weight grade.

Regular or large spangle: Visible crystal patterns give the familiar galvanized look. Consider this finish for unpainted parts where that appearance is acceptable, and approve a sample if visual consistency matters.

Minimized spangle: Smaller visible patterns provide a less pronounced appearance. The finish should be agreed with the mill rather than judged only from a product photograph.

Zero spangle: The zinc crystal pattern is not readily visible to the naked eye. It is often preferred for visible panels and further finishing. Zero spangle does not mean zero zinc, and it does not by itself guarantee smoothness or paint adhesion.

For painted panels: Specify spangle, surface quality, skin pass, surface treatment and preparation requirements together. Spangle size alone cannot confirm coating mass or corrosion performance.

Match the Grade to the Forming Job

State the finished part and its manufacturing steps before choosing a grade. A duct blank, a drawn housing and a load-bearing profile have different requirements. Bending radii, drawing depth and specified mechanical properties should guide selection.

For painted or powder-coated parts, tell us the intended finishing process before ordering oiling or passivation. Agree compatibility with your coating supplier and check a finished sample. For material supplied with a factory-applied color coating, explore our PPGI and PPGL products.

Practical Application Examples

The following are illustrative buyer scenarios, not verified customer orders or testimonials.

HVAC Duct Fabrication

A duct workshop needs blanks that feed, fold and join consistently. Provide the duct specification, thickness, blank layout and seam design. Compare samples for flatness, edge quality and forming performance, and confirm the coating requirement for the installed environment, including condensation exposure.

Painted Electrical Cabinets

A cabinet maker may prefer a uniform, zero-spangle appearance. The purchase specification should also cover surface quality and compatibility with degreasing, pretreatment and powder coating. Approve a formed and coated sample to assess appearance and adhesion before a larger order.

Roof Flashings and Building Accessories

A building-products fabricator should select material against the project specification, including exposure, bends, overlaps and fasteners. Review cut edges and drainage details as part of the component design. Do not substitute a lower zinc coating solely because the visible spangle looks similar.

Distributors Buying Custom Sheet Sizes

A distributor can specify sheet dimensions and bundle weights around customer cutting layouts and unloading equipment. Confirm squareness, length tolerance and pallet limits. Buyers with their own conversion line can compare our galvanized steel coils.

Inspection and Export Documents

GDD Metal can provide an MTC, Certificate of Origin, export license where required, commercial invoice, packing list, bill of lading and relevant customs documents. Confirm destination and document requirements before order placement to support compliant export procedures.

Agree the inspection scope in advance: grade, dimensions, flatness, coating mass, surface condition and bundle identification. Request coating-test results when zinc mass is a purchasing requirement; a visible spangle pattern is not a substitute for measurement. Third-party inspection can be arranged by agreement.

Packing and Handling

Sheets can be supplied in protected palletized bundles with moisture-resistant wrapping, edge protection and secure strapping. Match bundle weight to unloading capacity. Keep packs dry, inspect for transit moisture and avoid leaving wet sheets tightly stacked.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is galvanized sheet the same as Galvalume?

No. This product uses a zinc coating. Galvalume uses an aluminum-zinc alloy coating. Specify the coating system explicitly rather than treating Z and AZ designations as interchangeable.

Does a larger spangle mean a thicker zinc coating?

No. Order coating mass separately from appearance, and verify it through the agreed inspection method.

Can you guarantee a fixed service life?

Service life depends on exposure, component design, coating condition and maintenance. Provide the actual environment so the material can be reviewed against the project requirements.

Can you supply cut sheets instead of coils?

Yes, sheet dimensions and bundle arrangements can be agreed for the order. Send the required thickness, width, length and tolerances.

What are the MOQ and lead time?

They depend on the grade, coating, dimensions, available material and processing. Include your quantity and required delivery date for confirmation.
